"Human Connections' artisans come from diverse cultural backgrounds, which are reflected in their creations that represent different traditions and unique aesthetics."
"Human Connections is a social enterprise in Mexico that connects people from diverse backgrounds through educational programs.
"We work directly with local artisans and micro-entrepreneurs to assist them in reaching new markets, and our goal is to foster positive connections across cultures.
"We offer cultural day tours to provide visitors a unique opportunity to personally meet local artisans, and converse with them to hear their stories and learn about their livelihoods. The tour profits go back into the local community, through English and business classes for the artisans, and they are also paid for their time spent with our tour guests.
"Human Connections' artisans come from diverse cultural backgrounds, which are reflected in their creations that represent different traditions and unique aesthetics.
"One of our artisan partners, Leonarda, is Huichol. She creates wooden figurines and decorates them with tiny colored seed beads to create traditional symbols and patterns. Don Moises and Doña Zeneida are Nahua and weave traditional hammocks.
"Many of our other artisans work with natural materials, including cotton, wood, wool, beeswax and bamboo.
"Our biggest challenge is during the low tourism season when artisans suffer a significant loss in sales and their incomes drop significantly. Our participating artisans hope to one day earn a better livelihood and future for their families.
"We are very happy to offer their creations to you through Novica."
