James Amoah Atta
The artistry of James Amoah Atta has been featured on Oxygen TV.James Amoah Atta was born in Aburi, a few miles outside of Accra on April 14, 1973. Being a naturally talented artist, he became intimate with carving in his first years of secondary school. Interestingly, he did some creative work in exchange for a little money during his school years, particularly when on vacation. Sadly, but with bold determinism, Atta worked hard at his gift to see him through school as his father died long before he graduated.
After completing the sixth form Atta started his own studio. Today he sculpts figures, masks, animals, silhouettes and profiles at his studio, Jaks Larry Carving. Working with and training various artisans, he hopes to one day pursue further artistic studies. His primary materials are abundant "sese" wood (Funturria africana), African teak, "twenedua" and ebony.
