On a mountain peak, the silhouette of a woman stands tall, proud and filled with power. Yet she hovers in the foreground in great detail but with only half a body. The inert torso seems stitched together. Julia Salinas transmits her subject's fragility, her repressions, ties and frustrations. "This painting was inspired by a poem by Eduardo Eielson, 'Cuerpo Dividido' (Divided Body)," the artist confides. "It says '?if half my body smiles, the other half is filled with sadness and mysterious fish scales come from my hair?.'"
Titled "Mitad de mi cuerpo" in Spanish.
