This sese wood mask of ravishing beauty personifies freedom, according to Akan traditions. "This type of mask is usually given to someone who has been released from bondage by the family," explains master carver Daniel Nyadedzor. "It signifies true emancipation." Known as Fahodi (meaning freedom), the mask features ornately embossed brass plates and a distinctive hairdo.
