"I was born in Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, known as India's carpet city. My family also crafts carpets.

"Those who know me well describe me as someone who is supportive, kind and creative.

"My son and I look after all the work together. We have our own workshop and many skilled weavers collaborate with us, as this work is quite labor-intensive. Each artisan has a creative mind and each has ideas about the future trends, colors, styles and patterns. We all work as a team.

"We generally use natural wool, silk, viscose and other fibers, depending upon the availability. Some materials can be recycled.

"I find inspiration for our designs in ancient homes, sculptures and palace drawings, but we also create contemporary styles.

"My greatest challenge is that the new generation is not learning how to weave carpets. Sadly, it seems that machine-made rugs are gradually taking over the market.

"Learning from responsibility is the key to success for everyone; everyone involved my endeavor has taught me in one way or the other. Master artisans have helped me gain knowledge with work and practice and, of course, learning from experience is the best way." They are able to earn their bread and butter directly in my workshop or indirectly, supplying materials and providing other important skills.
