Peruvian artisan Edit Sanchez handcrafts a decorative mask out of strong and lightweight acrylic resin inspired by the masks used in traditional folk dances in Cusco that tell a satiric story. Small enough to fit in the palm of the hand, this mask is inspired by the Chukchu Dance, satirizing laborers who once worked in a hacienda rife with malaria, that took harsh treatments that wracked their bodies in ill-fated attempts to recover from the disease. This character with exaggerated, contorted features has a yellow face, blue eyes, with one hanging from the socket, and a green spotted frog crawling up one cheek. A triangular bar on the back makes it easy to hang on the wall.
