Details

People and pigeons enjoy the plaza in front of Guatemala's Palacio Nacional. In the foreground, a man naps alongside the reflecting pond in a photograph by Rene Adolfo Giron. "General Jorge Ubico was in power when the Palacio was built, and he enforced a law against vagrancy, which required that unemployed people do forced labor," the photographer says. "Perhaps this ironic image should be named "The Redemption of History."

Color photograph on Epson paper mounted with a mat board passe partout, titled "Equilibrio" in Spanish.
