"To me, the traditional dress of Zunil is a veritable masterpiece that forever inspires me," confides Iliana Hernández. The Guatemalan artisan crafts this beautiful display doll by hand with hand-woven cotton for her multicolor huipil dress with embroidered flowers round the neck. Her head, hands and feet are carved of pinewood. She wears an amazing headdress over her woolen braided hair. The doll wears one cent coin earrings - one displaying Guatemala's coat of arms, and the other side has the face of Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, the Dominican monk who defended the indigenous community from the abuses of the Spanish conquistadors.

Men and women to this day proudly wear the traditional costumes of Zunil, which are beautiful, full of eye-catching colors.
