"People from Guatemala, as well as from abroad, are drawn to Quetzaltenango's history and culture. It is a beautiful city and I love the vibrant colors and elegance of their traditional costumes," exclaims Iliana Hernández. The Guatemalan artisan crafts this beautiful display doll by hand with hand-woven cotton for her huipil blouse and skirt, and pinewood for her head, hands and feet. Her woolen hair is decorated with a headband decorated with wood beads and multicolor pompoms. The doll wears one cent coin earrings - one displaying Guatemala's coat of arms, and the other side has the face of Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, the Dominican monk who defended the indigenous community from the abuses of the Spanish conquistadors.

Quetzaltenango is regarded as the second capital city of Guatemala as well as the birthplace of many musicians and artists. The traditional costume is dominanted by bright yellow and the skirts feature many pleats - they are ample and comfortable.

This is my fourth doll from Miss Hernandez. I love each one as it has its own costume which corresponds to the area of the country. Her fabrics and colors mix well and the outcome is unique and very beautiful dolls. Rochelle 2/18/17
