Details

La Lluvia de Peces de Yoro, or "the rain of fish in Yoro," is a phenomenon that occurs in the town of Yoro, Honduras. During a certain time between the months of May and July, thousands of fish crowd the local rivers in a torrent of sea life. Thought to be a miracle during ancient times, this naturally-occurring rarity still happens today, its reason yet unexplained. Alessandra Foletti honors the phenomenon, depicting a fish that might appear during La Lluvia de Peces. It is crafted with a burnishing technique, rubbing the piece with a flat tool or stone. A resist is used during firing to preserve the clay's natural alabaster color. Uncovered parts of the piece result in a black finish.
