A kaleidoscope of flowers and paisleys brings lavish elegance to this black wool shawl from Sandeep Malhotra. The composition is woven in shades of purple, orange, turquoise, teal, and fuchsia in a style that replicates the legendary the jamawar style, originally executed with laborious needlework. These ancient textiles were embroidered by hand with such intricate detail that a person could finish only one shawl in his lifetime. Jamawar shawls were not sold, but were given to kings and queens who, in turn, gave the artisan properties according to the worth of the shawl. Nowadays authentic jamawar is virtually unavailable, and only replicas such as this can be found.
Sandeep has embraced his family's textile endeavor and has been instrumental in its growth. Today his family's workshop provides others in his neighborhood.
Sandeep has two children. He is deeply committed to caring for them while he strives to provide them with the best possible education.
Sandeep supports his two children.
I wore this with a lacy purple dress to a winter wedding and it provided warmth and extra flair.

"Purple extravaganza" isn't sufficient description. Try rose, violet, fuschia, azure, and a hint of harvest-moon orange. It's perfect with a formal gown for our granddaughter's wedding, and the azure sets off the necklace my husband gave me before our wedding 50+ years ago. I couldn't be happier.

The material is a gauzy, thin, quality wool (not quite transparent). The colors are bright and as pictured. It is a playful, elegant, sophisticated way to add warmth with fine design work. The only thing I would say is that I've been looking for years for a wool scarf to rival a jamawar scarf I lost, and this one is not quite it. It does not have the fine detail work of my lost scarf, but rather a chunky, dot matrix sort of look to the design. It's still beautiful in its own way, but I add this detail as it can be difficult to ascertain online. Also, great customer support, Novica. I purchased this scarf for my wedding (six weeks out), and Donna was great making sure I got the item in time.
