Men's Woven Blue Button-Down Shirt from Guatemala, "Guatemalan Vacation"

"More than a family of designers and tailors, we're a family with a sense of social responsibility. We're able to offer opportunities to many families who still practice our traditional weaving arts. Thanks to this, a number of celebrities wear our apparel, such as Guatemalan singer and recording artist, Ricardo Arjona.

"I'm Patricia Hernandez and I'm very proud to introduce the Perez Hernandez Family artisans.

"I've always loved wearing colorful clothes and borrowing from my sisters' and mother's wardrobes. I always combined all kinds of things and, even though they didn't go together, I thought they did. It was funny because I really looked awful. However, that's when my mind began to develop an ability for design.

"Eventually, I began sketching my own fashions – blouses and dresses. I'd paint the drawings and create extremely original designs but I never took it seriously.

"One day, my sister Esperanza and her husband Martin saw my sketches. Martin was really impressed and pushed me to take classes in design and dressmaking. At first, I didn't want to because I didn't think it was anything I could use. But with every passing day, I liked it more and more until I fell in love with fashion design. I learned everything I could.

"At home, I taught my brothers and sisters what I'd learned and they loved it, too. One day while we were talking, we got the idea to form a family workshop. That's how it all began, without ever planning it.

"We began with very simple designs, using whatever fabric we found, and sold our apparel in the markets. It was well accepted. But shoppers helped us see the need to repeat the same design in different sizes, so I designed different fabrics for this purpose.

"With this, we were able to give work to many artisans in the area. Weavers create the cloth and women help us sew in their own homes. We've all formed a wonderful bond. We have full confidence in their skill and they are happy knowing they are contributing to a unique line of apparel that holds a little bit of their love and ours.

"We are a very large family here in this project and we feel very blessed. We seek originality and innovation with each new design. But, most of all, we want to preserve our beautiful Guatemalan handwoven textiles and support the families who create them. We feel a social commitment and this keeps us working to generate more opportunities.
