Details

A mermaid reaches out in dark waters to caress luminous jellyfish drifting in the night. Stars are reflected in the sea and her graceful tail is tucked inside a nautilus shell. Working in black and white, Marina Pallares creates a linoleum block print of dazzling detail. "In general, my work is inspired by magic realism. The mermaid emerges from a seashell, a unique and enigmatic creature. The jellyfish are equally enigmatic, silent, always in motion. She feels love for them as she reaches out... but will she be able to touch them? Will they sting her? Will they be compatible? Somehow, the mermaid represents all of us when falling in love, when anything is possible. She also symbolizes my own love for the sea," the Mexican artist confides.

Titled "La sirena que se enamoró de las medusas" in Spanish.

"A sailor who fell in love with a mermaid"

I collect mermaids of all sorts... this image will have an honored place among them. This is one of a very few mermaids shown enjoying their private underwater environment unabashedly.

I love your prints, and I was so happy to find your print 'The Cat, Tequila Lotto'. My best friend loves cats and she loves Mexico (and she doesn't mind tequila, either). I bought her this print for her birthday and she absolutely loved it!
