From the Mexican state of Chiapas comes this handmade beaded amber necklace presented by Juan García. The simplicity of the design, a pair of larger beads in darker tones of brown and honey alternating with a trio of small beads in lighter shades, makes the necklace a great accessory for a casual outing. Amber, fossilized tree resin that is millions of years old, varies in tone and often contains minuscule inclusions of insects and plants; beads made using amber tend to be quite different from each other, making amber jewelry unique. The clasp is sterling silver.
Juan has continued to pass down the traditional techniques he uses in his artwork to his children in order to preserve the significance his culture holds in their crafts. He has also been credited with honorable mentions and prizes in popular art competitions in the state.
