Kneeling with hands in prayer, this extraordinary sculpture comes from the fertile imagination of Manuel Delfino. "Sometime ago I was told about Xibalbá, the Maya underworld, which rather than a place of suffering, it was considered to be governed by a council of deities. It is a place of great energy and magical creatures. I started carving these skeletal creatures with colorful flowers in funny poses since I heard this story," says Delfino of his inspiration. "With this pinewood sculpture I wanted to represent those who repent - just like the stories grandmothers tell of people who do not go in peace unless they've been forgiven for their sins."
