Details

Working in a unique abstract style that chases the essence of Guatemalan nature and pre-Hispanic cultures, Jose Coutiño paints this fascinating composition inspired by themes of flowering. In colorful, wavelike shapes, women travel while wearing traditional clothing and carrying jars atop their heads. Says the artist, "Nothing in the universe is static. In ancestral tradition they speak of the underworld in relation to the conscious and unconscious mind. The world is related to the form in which we find ourselves in front of different situations in life. The above world is related to the ability to distinguish between the voice of the ego and the voice of the spirit; there you find the wisdom of the ancestors."
