Standing together under the glow of the crescent moon, two Akha girls show off the legendary beauty of their costumes. Oraphat paints an endearing portrait of tradition in honor of the Akha hill tribe, who originates in China and Tibet.
"My works and my choice of colors express my imagination and my feelings. Hill tribe kids have their own identity, which I find greatly interesting."
"My name is Oraphat Phuruangraengphol and I was born on November 9, 1972 in Chachoengsao. I moved to Bangkok when I was 13 years old, where I graduated with a Bachelor's degree, majoring in arts communication. I moved again, this time to Chiang Mai and I love it up here. It is a nice area, with a strong cultural and traditional identity.
"I am a joyful person. I like reading, photography, traveling, searching for new knowledge. I am happy to be able to do the things I love, especially creating artworks.
"I believe in Buddhism and adhere to the Thai culture. I like to go to temples and ancient places, and I do merit by giving food alms to Buddhist monks.
"My works and my choice of colors express my imagination and my feelings. Hill tribe kids have their own identity, which I find greatly interesting. That is why I decided to represent them and their identity through my own style and colors. However, I will continue creating what impresses me, developing and improving my style and varying the themes and subjects as time passes."
