Original Impressionist Gandhara Buddha Painting, "Intelligence"$839.99
This intriguing and atmospheric acrylic on canvas painting is by Thai artist Rawat Vongla. The artist recreates an ancient Greco-Buddhist statue in hazy shades of rose, green and brown. The statue was one of the first representations of Buddha (1st - 2nd century AD), and was excavated at Gandhara, Pakistan. Such early Hellenistic interpretations, such as the figure's draped, toga-like garment, point to the Greek influence on depictions of the Buddha from that point onward.
Original African Acrylic on Canvas Landscape Painting, "The Surprise of Nature"
Fred Quarcoo captures the mid-morning heat rising off the West African landscape in this evocative painting. He works in acrylic on canvas with a gestural style to depict a woman on her journey to get water.
Acrylic on Canvas Painting of Hellenistic Buddha, "Buddha Vision"$709.99
Artist Rawat Vongla of Thailand works in acrylic on canvas to create this original composition, which features the Greco-Buddhist representation of Buddha. The Hellenistic influence on images of Buddha can be seen in the idealistic realism of the figures, the draped clothing so typical of Greek statues, and the curled hair which is representative of the Mediterranean. Vongla uses a muted palette of purple, rose, blue and green to create a dream-like feeling.
