Limited Edition Print of Mexican Dance Masks, "Pair of Masks"
$69.99Artist R. Fabricio is inspired by Mexican cultural traditions in the creation of this linoleum block print in the style of the Tastoan dance masks. Male dancers take to the streets of Tonala every July 25th, the feast day of St. James, patron saint of Spain and of the Spanish conquest of Mexico. They wear the grotesque masks as a symbol of the fierce and undaunted spirit of the Mexican people in spite of conquest and compromise. The dots on the face may represent smallpox, one of the unfortunate consequences that came with the Spanish. The print is part of a limited edition of 50.
