"One of my most difficult challenges in my life has been to be able to express myself in public, and now through art I can stand before a large crowd to explain my art work."
"I am a creative, jovial and gifted person. I am also a fine artist. Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe is my name, and I was born in Accra. I got interested in art when I was a kid, inspired by my older brother, Papa Arko. I used to follow him every time he went to the cinema to draw images on movie posters. He noticed my interest and bought me a drawing book of my own so I could practice and draw what I liked. He also taught me how to sketch and draw. Sketching then became my hobby - I sketched virtually everything I saw.
"Eventually I also began visiting cinemas to sketch images on movie posters. I developed such a love for sketching that I began outdoor sketching at age 18 and started my first color work at age 20. I studied visual arts during senior high to improve on my skills and I furthered my education at the Ghanatta College of Art, where I mastered my art.
"I have always loved to draw, so I developed a passion for it which I express through my work. Constant practice and research have helped me improve my art work and together with my lecturers at Ghanatta College of Art I have become the artist that I am today.
"I have also taught lots of upcoming artistes. I get my inspiration from children and people's life changing stories. The favorite thing about my art is that I am free to express myself and visually represent my thoughts on canvas.
"I held my first group exhibition in 2006 at the British Council and the second exhibition in 2014. In June 2014, I held my solo exhibition in Pretoria, South Africa. It has been a great journey and I look forward to more exhibitions in the future.
"One of my most difficult challenges in my life has been to be able to express myself in public, and now through art I can stand before a large crowd to explain my art work.
"One day I was invited by a lady friend to a party, and it resulted in one of the most embarrassing moments in my life. I wanted to know a little more about the kind of party she was inviting me to, but all she said was 'just come.' I looked my best, thinking it was a birthday party but upon reaching the venue, I realized I was the only man present for unknowingly, it turned out to be a baby shower. I really felt embarrassed as the ladies had surprised expressions on their faces!
"My hopes, plans and dreams for the future are to become one of the best artists in the world, and to pass on my art legacy and ideas to upcoming artists."
