Zapotec artisan Irene Ruiz celebrates her community's artistic legacy with this colorful wool rug. She prepares the dyes herself with a variety of natural sources, some of which grow wild near her village. Ruiz uses tree bark, indigo, walnut and cochineal among other plants and bugs. The rug is woven on a traditional loom, masterfully replicating pre-Hispanic glyphs for her design.
