Grinning skeletons frolic in the cemetery as a black cat on a tombstone looks on. Ana María González commemorates Day of the Dead with a colorful chest for personal treasures. In Mexico, the Day of the Dead is about celebrating the life of those who have passed, rather than mourning their deaths. People visit graves with myriad offerings, including bright floral displays. The artisan works in decoupage on pinewood.

As with all of my purchases from Ana Maria Gonzales, this large, decorative box, really more of a casket or treasure box, is perfectly designed and crafted, eye-catching--totally charming. What's more, it's just plain fun. The graphic is colorful, joyous, and entertaining. I still don't think I've absorbed every detail. The domed lid is secured with a long interior hinge and supported by a chain at either end to prevent any damage to the hinge in the open position--very thoughtful. The picture doesn't do it justice, and I love my box so much that I recently purchased a second. The first box is full of aromatherapy supplies--plenty of room for 4 oz. glass bottles of essential oils, and I'll have no problem finding a use for the second box in a different room. This will arrive, as all my purchases from Ana Maria, in very heavy Mexican shipping cardboard boxes, double packed and extremely well-secured. I've never experienced any damaged to any order, or even the box my order shipped in.
