"Although it's sometimes exhausting, this art is also very enjoyable because it not only keeps us close as a family. It motivates us to see how well our designs are received, and it brings us great satisfaction."
"Our family has always lived the Junin region of the Peruvian Andes. My parents, Pedro and Juana, met when they were in college. My father was studying chemical engineering but he knew how to craft sweaters because my grandparents sold sweaters all over Peru and Dad would go with them. They taught him the techniques.
"My mother, Juanita, already knew how to knit and crochet. From the time she was a little girl, she made sweaters for her dolls, and then for herself. By the time she got to college, she was making sweaters for her friends for spending money.
"After my parents got married, they began to work in the textile field creating apparel for the local market while they continued in school.
"They shared the knowledge they'd acquired over the years with my sister and me. She and I majored in fashion design and accounting, as we planned to work with our parents.
"My father always liked soccer and, when he was at home, he liked designing. Mom really enjoyed and knitting and collected all the tools she could find for her craft. We girls — Edith and Julia — enjoy drawing, painting, travel, playing chess and, above all, design.
"Although it's sometimes exhausting, this art is also very enjoyable because it not only keeps us close as a family. It motivates us to see how well our designs are received, and it brings us great satisfaction to know our apparel is scattered all over the world, keeping people warm.
"Our inspiration comes from the Andes themselves, the cradle of our culture, and we're proud to live in the Peruvian sierra.
"We've had out challenges, just like every family and business, and we've had our share of tough times. I think the most memorable was when our biggest client decided from one day to the next that he'd no longer work with alpaca apparel because of the economic crisis in the U.S. Even so, we were able to continue with our work.
"My family and I want to thank you for your preference. Every design we create is made with much love and dedication."
